Kyle McCord may have been slightly more important to Ohio State’s offense than some fans gave him credit for.

The now Syracuse-bound QB hit the transfer portal just after the end of the season, with many believing the Buckeyes all but decided to show him the door. McCord was not bad in 2023 by any means, but he wasn’t quite CJ Stroud or Justin Fields. However you spin it, Ohio State’s offense looked truly dreadful without McCord under center Friday night.

The Buckeyes scored just 3 points against the Tigers, which as some fans put it, is unacceptable. Devin Brown was forced to exit early into his stint as the starter, but Ohio State’s passers combined to complete just 10 of 24 passes for 106 yards. Missouri completed 11 of 18 for 203 yards and a touchdown.
