Fans, media react to disastrous first half by Shaun Wade in National Championship Game

Ohio State is down big at the half, and a big story in the first half against Alabama has been the play of defensive back Shaun Wade.
Slowing down the Crimson Tide offense and Heisman-winning receiver DeVonta Smith was always going to be tough, but Wade was asked during the week about which player he was most looking forward to facing in the title game. He was coy in his response, but the assumption was that he wanted to face Smith:

Entering the half, Smith has been unstoppable, putting up 215 yards on 12 catches and three touchdowns. That is just unfathomable with Alabama finding a variety of patterns to get Smith open with the ball in his hands.
Though Wade hasn’t been the only one to cover Smith, he has certainly had his chances against the Heisman winner. He has struggled, to say the least, and those on social media have not been kind to the performance.
Here is a taste of the reactions to the first half:
Wade better pull a hamstring , if not he’s going from 1st round to undrafted free agent

Shaun Wade. Be careful what you ask for

I’m not a defensive genius, but maybe Ohio State should put two — or three — guys on Devonta Smith. Shaun Wade is getting embarrassed.

If Ohio State is going to have any chance in the second half, Wade and the Buckeye defense has to be much better.
