There were rumors this morning that the team and Meyer had been talking in recent days and that a deal could be reached today. With the deal finally done, Jacksonville can now look to the future which most likely means quarterback Trevor Lawrence at No. 1 in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Before Meyer took this job, he coached at both Florida and Ohio State and won National Championships with both programs. He won two with Florida in 2006 and 2008 and then won in 2014 with the Buckeyes. His overall coaching record is 187-32 as he also spent time with Utah and Bowling Green State.
This will be Meyer’s first full rebuild that he’ll have been part of for his coaching tenure so we’ll see how quickly he can get the Jaguars back to winning. Jacksonville was 1-15 in 2020.
