Former Ohio State DB Jeff Okudah burst into the NFL as a top-5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Now, he’s reportedly on the move via trade while still on his rookie contract.

Coming out of Ohio State, the Detroit Lions selected Okudah No. 3 overall with high expectations. Unfortunately, he struggled to stay on the field until the 2022 season when he set career-high numbers in many key categories.

Despite that bounceback season for Okudah, the Lions are reportedly shipping the DB to the Atlanta Falcons. ESPN’s Field Yates reported the deal as a “win-win situation” for all parties involved, including Okudah who gets a fresh start with the Falcons.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the compensation going back to the Lions from Atlanta is a 5th-round pick in this year’s draft.

After appearing in 10 games total across his first two seasons, Okudah posted 73 total tackles in 15 games during 2022. He added an interception, 7 pass breakups and 2 TFLs as a key piece for the Lion’s defense.

While it looked like Okudah was finally on his way to becoming a staple in Detroit, he’ll get a new chance to make an impact in Atlanta.
