Former Ohio State kicker makes return to NFL roster at age 37
Ohio State has had numerous successful kickers over the years.
One of them is Mike Nugent. Nugent, at age 37, signed with the New England Patriots earlier this week in large part because kicker Stephen Gostkowski is on injured reserve after having hip surgery.

Nugent, Buckeye fans may remember, was a part of Jim Tressel’s first recruiting class.

He hasn’t kicked in an NFL game since September of last season, and it should be noted that Nugent hasn’t missed a field goal attempt since 2017. He did, however, miss one extra point attempt (that got blocked) with Oakland in 2018 during his three-game stint.
Nugent should have plenty of opportunities this season being a member of the Patriots — his eighth NFL team. He also hasn’t won a playoff game during his 14-year NFL career. Again, being with the Patriots may help break that.
