Reserve/Future contracts are signed in between the end of the NFL regular season and the new offseason by players who did not end the regular season on an active roster. Simon’s deal goes into effect when the NFL begins its 2022 operating year. The league is still under 2021 operations with the playoffs going on and the Super Bowl yet to be played.
Simon, who has been in the league since 2013, landed on the Steelers practice squad in December after being waived by Tennessee, where he appeared in 2 games in the 2021 regular season. He suited up for the Steelers in Week 16 but did not record any statistics.
Simon entered the league in 2013 when he was selected by the Baltimore Ravens with the No. 129 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Over the years, Simon has also spent time with the Houston Texans (2014-16), Indianapolis Colts (2017-19) and New England Patriots (2018-20).
Over his pro career, Simon has played in 100 games, recording 259 tackles, 21 sacks and 2 interceptions.
