Fans in Columbus were used to seeing strong play from defensive back Shaun Wade. Now, the NFL and the folks in Baltimore are also seeing it up close and personal.

Through just two preseason games, Wade has made a name for himself with the Ravens. Folks around the league have taken notice, including the people at Pro Football Focus. The site recently listed its highest-graded rookie cornerbacks against single coverage and Wade was ranked second.

Based on these numbers, Wade will have a shot to make a difference for Baltimore in 2021. Not bad for a guy who had quite the slide during the 2021 NFL Draft.

The success for Wade, a fifth-round pick by the Ravens, started in game one. Late in Baltimore’s preseason opener, Wade got his first pro interception against the Saints to give Baltimore a win. With his high grade in single coverage, there probably aren’t many players he’s covering who are being targeted.

Wade comes to Baltimore after starring at Ohio State. He was the first Buckeye to win the B1G Defensive Back of the Year. In his final season in Columbus, Wade finished with 2 interceptions and was third on the team in tackles. That successful 2020 came after a 2019 season where he started all 14 games for Ohio State. A sophomore at the time, Wade finished with 26 tackles, an interception, and 2 forced fumbles.
