Ohio State’s secondary is getting some help out of the transfer portal.
The Buckeyes received a pledge from former Oklahoma State starting safety Tanner McCalister. He made his announcement with a post on Twitter on Wednesday. The news comes after Ohio State named former Cowboys defensive coordinator Jim Knowles the new DC.

McCalister spent 4 seasons at Oklahoma State but decided to hit the transfer portal following the 2021 campaign. He’s been a starter in the Cowboys secondary each of the past 2 seasons, playing a big role for the program.
This season, McCalister totaled 42 tackles, 6 pass break-ups and an interception for the Cowboys. They finished the year with a 12-2 record and an appearance in the Big 12 title game.
Oklahoma State closed out the year with a win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.
In 4 seasons at Oklahoma State, McCalister had 123 stops, including 4.5 for loss. He also was credited with 13 pass break-ups and his lone interception in 2021.
McCalister will have 1 year of eligibility to use at Ohio State.
