Freshmen phenoms? Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, TreVeyon Henderson off to impressive starts
Ohio State is known for recruiting some of the nation’s most talented prospects. But not all of those players are able to make significant contributions early in their careers in Columbus.
That’s not the case for C.J. Stroud and TreVeyon Henderson.
Stroud, a redshirt freshman, has been one of the top quarterbacks in the B1G through the first five weeks of the season. Henderson, a true freshman running back, has been as impressive as any player in the league.

As we prepare to enter the second week of October, the two Buckeye young guns are actually leading the B1G in a few key statistical categories.
Through 5 games — and he’s only played 4 — Stroud leads the B1G in passing yards per game, throwing for an average of 323.3 yards per contest. He’s also atop the conference in total touchdown passes at 13.
Not bad for a redshirt freshman who hadn’t thrown a college pass coming into the season, is it?
Henderson was praised as one of the top running backs of the 2021 recruiting class and has lived up to the hype. In his first 5 games with the Buckeyes, the freshman ball carrier has totaled 510 yards and 7 touchdowns on 54 carries.
The 9.44(!) yards per carry average leads the B1G.
Ohio State is 4-1 on the season after a dominating win over Rutgers last weekend. The Buckeyes have struggled at times this season, but appear to be hitting their stride as we hit the meat of the B1G season.
For Ryan Day’s to continue to stay in the B1G race and potentially win a fifth-straight conference title, both Stroud and Henderson will have to play at a high level.
