Greg McElroy recently comprised a list of the top 12 teams facing the most pressure heading into the 2023 college football season.

During Monday’s episode of the Always College Football Podcast, McElroy broke down his entire list with one B1G team left at the top. That program is Ryan Day’s Ohio State squad.

To McElroy, the pressure is pretty simple. Ohio State has not won the national title since the 2014 season. Beyond that, Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan program have dominated the Buckeyes while going 25-1 in the regular season with back-to-back B1G titles the past two seasons.

“Not only is the pressure there to beat your rival and Jim Harbaugh, the pressure is also there for Ryan Day to break through in the College Football Playoff,” explained McElroy.

Heading into the 2022 season, Day made it clear the 3 goals for Ohio State each and every year are to beat Michigan, to win the B1G and to play for the national title. Though the Buckeyes made it to the Playoff last season, Ohio State fell to Georgia in a Peach Bowl nail-biter.

After missing out on those goals in back-to-back seasons, the pressure is on for Day to put things together. This time around, he must do it with a new starting quarterback as CJ Stroud departs for the NFL.
