Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano has been a coach with four different FBS programs and two NFL teams. So, he’s seen a lot over the last three decades. But he’s never seen anything like this.

“This” being Ohio State’s defensive line.

While being interviewed by Big Ten Network during the network’s stop in Columbus, Schiano claimed that the Buckeyes’ defensive line is more talented than any he’s ever coached. And yes, he meant at the NFL level, too.

“It is, and that’s not a joke,” Schiano said. “We had a great player in Tampa in Gerald McCoy. Tremendous player, but that was one guy. I go back to my days at Miami in ’99 and 2000. This is clearly a better group than those guys. And that’s saying something.”

Hearing a coach sing high praises of his team is nothing new in college football, but most don’t take it to that extreme. But Schiano did. And he seems to believe what he’s saying.

Ohio State certainly has a good makeup of talent along the front, which includes talents like Tyquan Lewis, Sam Hubbard, Jalyn Holmes and Nick Bosa. And it certainly could be one of the best in the B1G and probably the country this year.

But some of those NFL lines that Schiano coached would probably have something to say about being called less talented than a group of college athletes.
