Here's what Ohio State coach Ryan Day said on his weekly radio show

Ryan Day spoke on Thursday during his weekly radio show, the Ohio State head coach addressing a number of topics around his team.

Among them was the cancellation of Ohio State’s regular season finale against Michigan. At 5-0 and ranked fourth in the most recent AP Top 25 Poll, Ohio State is trending towards an appearance in the College Football Playoff.

A win against Northwestern in the upcoming Big Ten Championship Game and Ohio State likely qualifies for the four-team playoff.

But there were other things for Day to talk about besides the loss of the Michigan game. He also discussed Trey Sermon, Justin Fields and how the Buckeyes will watch Northwestern-Illinois on Saturday.

Day on RB Trey Sermon vs. MSU: "It was great to see him have a bit of a breakout game. He's a great young man." Said it didn't come all at once for him upon arrival from Oklahoma but it's coming together now.

Day said he was impressed with how QB Justin Fields competed vs. MSU. Said most plays weren't clean, to be expected with a makeshift line, but he made plays with his athleticism and toughness.

Day on team routing Michigan State despite being short-handed: "It was great to see our guys with energy and passion. It mattered" and in terms of OSU staying No. 4 in CFP.

Ryan Day said he thinks Justin Fields has made “giant strides” as a leader. On Fields' effort to run down the field and get in front of Trey Sermon as a blocker on his 64-yard touchdown run, Day said that was “special.”

Ryan Day said all the coaches who missed the Michigan State game are back at practice, and he's optimistic the players who missed that game due to COVID-19 tests will be back for the Big Ten Championship Game. But, everyone else needs to be careful so they don't test positive.
