Here’s what Ohio State DC Kerry Coombs said about Alabama prior to National Championship Game

No. 3 Ohio State is preparing this week for next Monday’s national championship showdown vs. No. 1 Alabama. In the College Football Playoff semifinals, Ohio State defeated No. 2 Clemson 49-28 and Alabama beat No. 4 Notre Dame 31-14.
The national championship should be a fascinating clash between the Alabama offense and the Ohio State defense.
If Ohio State is going to win its first national title since 2014, they’ll have to slow down a high-octane Alabama offense featuring five All-Americans, anchored by Heisman Trophy wide receiver DeVonta Smith. Alabama has scored over 30 points in every game this season.
Meanwhile, the Ohio State defense has only allowed over 30 points in just one game this season, which came in a 42-35 victory vs. Indiana.
Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs addressed the media on Wednesday. Here’s some of what Coombs had to say about Alabama’s offense:
OSU DC Kerry Coombs on facing Alabama’s amazing offense: “We’re going to go play. We’re not going to play scared. You have to acknowledge when a team is good … but we’re preparing to play.”

Defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs says OSU “absolutely has to prepare like [Jaylen Waddle] is going to play” for Alabama in Monday’s national championship.

Kerry Coombs on #RollTide WR Jaylen Waddle: “You absolutely have to prepare like he’s going to play. He’s an extraordinary athlete, an extraordinary receiver. … He’s a special player.”

Kerry Coombs on the Ohio State win over Alabama in 2015:

Kerry Coombs on how Alabama’s offense has evolved since 2014:
“They’ve always had great players. That’s the Alabama way. They’ve always been physical. A lot more wrinkles to the offensive package.”#GoBuckeyes #NationalChampionship

#GoBuckeyes defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs on #RollTide: “This is a great offense. It is a complete offense. They have five All-Americans on the offensive side of the ball, and the Heisman trophy winner. They understand how to attack defenses.”

Defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs spoke about the challenge of facing Alabama’s seemingly weakness-free offense. Said OSU has to be fundamentally sound in all ways to try to slow down the Tide.

Kerry Coombs said DeVonta Smith runs great routes, high-points the ball, he blocks, he’s involved in every phase of Alabama’s offense. “I appreciate good players. He’s a great player.”
