Ohio State fell to visiting Oregon 35-28 in Week 2. Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud passed for 484 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception in the defeat.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day addressed the media on Sept. 16 leading up to the matchup vs. Tulsa. Here’s a sampling of what Day had to say:

“The tricky thing was we had a Big Ten crew for the first game, when we go to the CFP we have different crews, then we had the Pac-12 crew.”
Ryan Day says rulings on targeting calls are “inconsistent” from one conference’s officiating crew to the next.

Ryan Day on Chris Olave: “I think he’s had a good look in his eyes in both of these games … that veteran presence means a lot.”

On C.J. Stroud: “I think we put too much on him, for sure … still has a long way to go in his development, but it’s a good start.”

Day says the Buckeyes worked very hard with Haskins and Fields on when to throw the ball away and when to tuck it and run, and that the staff is going through the same process with Stroud now.

“When you get into the red zone, you have to be able to run the ball.” Day says the Buckeyes will run the ball “by any means necessary,” including running the QB.

Bryson Shaw, Marcus Hooker, Ryan Watts, Kourt Williams are all being considered at the free safety position, Day says.

“I thought we did get lined up, I did see a little bit of hesitancy at times and just not getting the job done.” Day on the Buckeye defense against Oregon. “There was a lot of things we looked at this week, for sure.”

Ryan Day said he thought running backs Miyan Williams and TreVeyon Henderson were “excellent” in pass protection against Oregon.

Ryan Day has repeatedly said this week that he thinks Ohio State has been putting too much on C.J. Stroud’s plate. Don’t think 54 passing attempts will be the game plan for the Buckeyes going forward.
