Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has emphatically entered the Heisman Trophy race.

He was excellent in Week 1 vs. Nebraska, but he topped that performance with an even better showing on the road against No. 18 Penn State.

Fields finished 28-of-34 for 318 yards and four touchdowns in 38-25 victory.

If Fields can maintain this level of production and get the Buckeyes to an undefeated regular season, he might have an edge. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, the current Heisman frontrunner, missed today’s game with COVID-19 and will also be out next week vs. Notre Dame.

According to DraftKings, Fields (+400) was third in Heisman odds going into this week behind only Lawrence and Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. Following this performance from Fields and Lawrence’s absence, expect that +400 number to drop significantly.
