Dwayne Haskins was drafted 15th overall by the Washington Redskins in the 2019 NFL Draft, and an injury to another Washington quarterback may be paving the way to his first NFL start.

The former Ohio State star left after a record-breaking season in 2018. Haskins finished the year with over 4,800 yards passing and 50 TDs to just eight interceptions. He added four rushing touchdowns to his tally.

The impressive work by Haskins had his name flying up draft charts around the league with some analysts speculating he would be the first quarterback taken in this year’s draft. In reality, he would become the third QB taken in the draft behind Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones.

Widely considered Washington’s quarterback of the future, Haskins lost the starting competition to Case Keenum in training camp. However, Keenum missed practice Wednesday due to a foot injury, and that puts his status for Sunday’s game in question.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter shared the report:

If Keenum cannot go Sunday, it could open the door for Haskins to get his first start with the Redskins. Even if Keenum is progressing throughout the week, it might be time for Washington to consider a change. The Redskins are currently 0-3 on the season.
