Jaguars owner Shad Khan releases statement on Urban Meyer's firing
The Urban Meyer era with the Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t even get through Year 1. The former Ohio State coach was fired by the franchise after 13 games on the job.
The Jaguars struggled to a 2-11 record during Meyer’s first stint as a professional coach. Meyer had various reported run-ins with players and his assistants, as well as video capturing him dancing with a woman in a bar who wasn’t his wife.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan released a statement on the firing of Meyer and expressed disappointment that a resolution couldn’t be reached:
Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan: “After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of the entirety of Urban’s tenure with our team, I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone….”

“I informed Urban of the change this evening. As I stated in October, regaining our trust and respect was essential. Regrettably, it did not happen.”

“In the spirit of closure and recharging our players, staff and fan base, I will not comment further until some point following the conclusion of the NFL season.”

Meyer has captured three national championships (2 with Florida, 1 with Ohio State) and has posted a 187-32 record as a college football head coach. Meyer stepped away from coaching after the 2018 season because of health reasons and served as a broadcaster for FOX and the Big Ten Network during his retirement.
Since reaching the AFC Championship Game in 2017, the Jaguars have now posted four consecutive losing seasons.
