According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Smith-Njigba will not play in Week 9 against Penn State.

Smith-Njigba did not travel with the team and his return is uncertain.

In Week 8 against Iowa, Smith-Njigba collected 1 catch for 7 yards before leaving the game. The receiver has 5 catches for 43 yards on the season.

In 2021, Smith-Njigba was one of the most dynamic receivers in the nation, collecting 95 catches for 1,606 yards receiving and 9 TDs. Without the star WR, the Buckeye offense has relied more heavily on Emeka Egbuke and Marvin Harrison Jr.
