Jaxon Smith-Njigba was a first-round pick for the Seattle Seahawks this spring with high expectations for his rookie season. Unfortunately, the start of Smith-Njigba’s rookie season might be delayed.

He injured his wrist in the latest preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, and a Tuesday report indicated Smith-Njigba underwent surgery to repair that wrist. Seattle head coach Pete Carroll disputed that report.

According to Carroll, Smith-Njigba has not undergone surgery for the minor wrist fracture. Instead, the former Ohio State star will see a hand specialist.

As of now, the Seahawks have an optimistic outlook but Carroll is hoping Smith-Njigba’s injury is in the range of being a 3-4 week deal.

Smith-Njigba had 3 catches for 58 yards before his injury against the Cowboys. He had 6 catches for 83 yards in the preseason.

There’s no denying Smith-Njigba’s talent, but this is another frustrating setback for the young receiver. He was injured in Ohio State’s season opener a year ago and was never able to get back to full health.

Hopefully, he’s able to make a swift comeback and shine with the Seahawks.
