Jeremiah Smith might be just 18 years old, but the Ohio State freshman wide receiver hasn’t had any trouble adjusting to the collegiate level. After 2 games, the Buckeyes’ wideout has 11 receptions for 211 yards, 3 touchdowns and an average of 19.2 yards per catch.

NFL quarterback Geno Smith is Jeremiah’s cousin. The starting QB for the Seattle Seahawks didn’t hold back on giving his cousin praise, going as far as to say the Ohio State freshman could be the “best receiver ever.”

“I’ve seen a lot of great receivers and I’ve also had the chance to watch JJ since he was 10 years old,” Smith said.” He’s going to be the best receiver ever. I really believe that.”

Smith then reflected on watching his cousin’s first collegiate game against Akron, where he hauled in 6 receptions for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns.

“Man I was in the house watching that first game and he caught that first touchdown, I was ready to jump out of my seat,” Smith continued. “The whole house was going crazy, man. It was good to see that. I thought he had a heck of a game. I thought he started out a little slow, I know he wants to catch that first one, he could have scored on that one too. But great debut, I thought he did great. He was born with the talent but he’s putting the work in, he’s ready, he’s ready right now.”

While it’s easy to see why the veteran NFL QB is so high on his cousin’s potential, Smith has a long way to go before he can be crowned as the “best receiver ever.”

But it’s easy to see why the Seattle Seahawks QB feels the potential is there.

247Sports ranked Smith as the top WR of the 2024 class and the No. 1 overall player in the country. At 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, Smith has the rare combination of speed with strong hands to match his size, so it will be fun to see him continue to grow as Ohio State’s competition gets tougher.
