Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State blitz Oregon with electric opening possession in Rose Bowl
Jeremiah Smith and Ohio State are off and running in the Rose Bowl rematch vs. Oregon. And what a start it was for the Buckeyes!
After taking the opening kickoff, Ryan Day and his offense needed just 3 plays to score from 75 yards out vs. the Ducks. And considering one of those plays was an incompletion, it was more like 2 total plays to cover the distance.
The drive started with a quick pass to Gee Scott Jr. The tight end was off and running down the ride sideline, picking up 30 total yards and 19 after the catch to jumpstart the possession.
Then, after an incompletion, it was time for Jeremiah Smith to take over. The play was a tantalizing one with a faked handoff to the right side of the formation but Smith sneaking out back across the formation in the backfield.
It wound up being a screen pass behind the line of scrimmage with some elite blocking downfield. Ohio State’s receivers carved out a big lane downfield and Smith split a pair of Duck defenders while rolling for 45 yards and the touchdown.
