Jeremiah Smith sets Ohio State freshman receiving yardage record for a single game
Jeremiah Smith has officially set a new record at Ohio State.
Smith is now the program record-holder for receiving yardage in a single game as a freshman. He hit 187 yards during Ohio State’s quarterfinal matchup against Ohio state on Wednesday night, breaking a record that was formerly held by Cris Carter (172 yards).

Coincidentally, this record was also set at the Rose Bowl.
This is not the first time that Smith has rivaled one of Carter’s records, either. He broke Carter’s freshman receiving record in the game earlier this season between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Buckeyes, hitting a total of 35 receptions for 623 yards with 8 touchdowns at that point.
He finished that contest with 4 catches for 55 yards, leading the Buckeyes in receiving on that day. Carter’s freshman record for a single season was 648 yards.
Reaching such notable heights like this so early on in his career, it is easy to get the sense that Smith will ascend to one of college football’s best receivers and a top NFL Draft prospect in the future.
Ohio State is in position to advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals against Texas on Jan. 10.
