Jeremiah Smith ties Ohio State's freshman scoring record, delivers TD in 7th straight game
Jeremiah Smith is at it again, and Ohio State’s freshman phenom has tied the schools freshman touchdown record in just his 7th game played.
Entering Saturday’s game vs. Nebraska, Smith was already up to 7 receiving touchdowns after scoring in each of the first 6 games. That put him just one score behind Buckeye legend Cris Carter for the most receiving touchdowns in a freshman season.
All things considered, Smith got off to a slow start vs. the Huskers with Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate generating most of the early targets. But you can only hold Smith in check for so long.
In the 2nd quarter, Smith beat his man down the field and created plenty of separation. It allowed Will Howard to deliver a clean deep ball with Smith torching Nebraska for a 60-yard score.

Smith has now scored in all 7 games, becoming the first FBS freshman to score in his first 7 games since South Carolina’s Sidney Rice in 2005. He is up to 9 total touchdowns to begin his career and is certainly looking for more.
Ohio State has a plethora of weapons offensively, but Smith has stepped into a lead role out of the gate. So far, he’s lived up to that elite billing — and then some.
