Jim Knowles reserved the highest praise in uniquely describing Ohio State star defensive tackle Ty Hamilton.

“Ty is quiet, but he’s like a cold-blooded gentleman,” said the Buckeyes defensive coordinator. “He’s a force. Sometimes that might be difficult to see. But when you watch the tape, he is really knocking people back and creating difficult situations for the offense.”

True to Knowles’ words, the senior Hamilton only has 2 solo tackles in Ohio State’s 1st 2 games of the season, both blowout wins over Akron and Western Michigan. Hamilton has registered 8 total tackles in the 2 games, which isn’t bad, but it doesn’t jump off the page, either, which was Knowles’ point.

Hamilton also has half a sack in the 2 games.

But look at the total yards of Ohio State’s 1st 2 opponents. Hamilton helped hold Western Michigan to a measly 99 total yards in last Saturday’s victory, and Akron managed just 177 total yards in the Buckeyes’ Week 1 bludgeoning of the Zips.

“Ty has been reliable, durable, somebody that we can count on for a few years now,” said Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. “He’s put time, and he’s put effort, and he’s put work into this program. You can’t say enough about somebody like this. … He’s the ultimate team player.”

Hamilton didn’t get his 1st career start until Week 10 of the 2022 season against Northwestern, but he’s been a rock for the Buckeyes since then. Hamilton was named honorable mention All-Big Ten last season.
