Jim Knowles discusses bye week work with Ohio State's secondary, preparation for second half of the season
Jim Knowles addressed the defensive back play for Ohio State during his weekly press conference. After struggling at times through the first 6 games of the season, Knowles had time to work with the unit over the bye week.
Per Eleven Warrior’s Griffin Strom:
Jim Knowles on CB play during the bye week: "You do learn from even the plays you don't make. You can coach off of it. I thought we had a good week, we challenged."

Coach Knowles was brought in during the off-season from Oklahoma State to help fix a lot of the issues and direction the Buckeye’s defense was trending. Ohio State has an impressive rating in Football Outsider’s FEI defensive rating, a measure of efficiency-based statistics that show how a team performs on an average play. The Buckeye’s currently rank 12th in the nation in total effectiveness and Coach Knowles is a major reason why.

Ohio State’s back end has been improving with each week and Knowles made it clear that he’s been hard on his defense because they go against “the best offense in the country” in practice. His mindset is to constantly seek improvement but not just from success but “even the plays you don’t make”.
This weekend, the Buckeyes will play Iowa in Columbus at noon. Very few doubt that Ohio State will have much difficulty winning this game but Knowles knows it’s another opportunity to get better.
