When players have the kind of season Joe Burrow had in 2019, it can sometimes be difficult to stay focused on the task at hand. Hearing the buzz of being a potential No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft can be a bit overwhelming.

That’s not the case for the LSU quarterback, though. In fact, it’s the opportunity to play for a national championship that has driven Burrow for quite some time now.

While speaking with ESPN’s Marty Smith recently, Burrow said that winning a national championship is what has driven him to be successful. Pursuing a career in the NFL has been somewhat of an afterthought.

“I want to win a national title. That’s my drive since I was a sophomore in high school,” Burrow told Smith. “My dream was not to play in the NFL. It was to play in a dome somewhere for a national championship.”

Burrow gets his shot to do that after leading the Tigers to a 13-0 record, an SEC championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff, the team’s first since the inauguration of the new system in 2014.

LSU is the No. 1 ranked team and will take on No. 4 Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 28. With a win, the Tigers will take on either No. 2 Ohio State or No. 3 Clemson in the national championship game in New Orleans.

It’s already been a magical season for Burrow, winning the Heisman Trophy earlier this month. But the quarterback is hoping to add national championship trophy to his magical season in a few weeks.
