Joel Klatt explains why he has Ohio State ranked No. 5 prior to Week 1
Fox analyst Joel Klatt talks about his top 5 before the season starts.
Klatts’ rankings in order are as such No.1 Alabama, No.2 Oklahoma, No.3 Georgia, No.4 Clemson, No.5 Ohio State.
Klatts’ reasoning for ranking Ohio State fifth in his rankings is because their QB play is a complete unknown, with C.J. Stroud getting the nod Thursday night against Minnesota.

“Their position on this board is determined by what I trust most. I trust coaching and I trust QBs. Who is the most trustworthy coach right now in the game? It’s Nick Saban.”@joelklatt breaks down why @AlabamaFTBL is at the top of his preseason rankings 🔝🐘 pic.twitter.com/qqGTpaUWoi

“A guy we haven’t seen, Klatt said. “CJ Stroud is going to get the nod at the quarterback position.”
That is also why he ranked Clemson over Ohio State even though Ohio State beat Clemson and has a better roster than the Tigers. Clemson has a more proven QB in D.J. Uiagalelei.
“Ohio State’s sitting there saying, ‘Hey our roster is better, we just hammered Clemson, said Klatt. “I get it. And yet, at the most important position on the field, you’re a complete unknown.”
Oklahoma and Georgia are ranked ahead of Ohio State in Klatt’s rankings because of proven starters such as Spencer Rattler and J.T. Daniels.
Alabama gets the nod at No.1 because of the coach Nick Saban even though their QB Bryce Young is not proven, Klatt said.
The Buckeyes open the season tonight at the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 8:00 ET on FOX.
