Joel Klatt explains why he views Ohio State as the No. 1 team in the country entering Week 8
Joel Klatt is a fan of Ohio State. The college football analyst made his comments known on The Joel Klatt Show about the Buckeyes.
“I’ve seen great offenses before. In fact, we’ve seen some incredible offenses that have fallen short (of a national title),” Klatt explained.
Yes, the Ohio State offense has been great. Quarterback C.J. Stroud is a Heisman favorite for a unit averaging 48.8 points per game. Stroud has thrown for 1,737 yards and 24 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. But that is only one side of the coin, as Klatt explains.
“The reason they’re No. 1 for me is not their offense which was already dynamic and electric a year ago, it’s because of the 18 steps that they’ve taken forward with their defense. Their defense under new DC Jim Knowles is so much better than they were a year ago, I don’t know how dominant they are, but I know that they’re better.”
Klatt makes a pretty good point. Jim Knowles’ defense has given up 15.6 points per game. Keep in mind the Ohio State offense is putting up massive amounts of points to put back the defense on the field. Also, that number could get even better with lowly Iowa visiting Columbus on Saturday.

Right now, Ohio State looks like a pretty complete team. It might come down to their date with Michigan again as who represents the B1G in the College Football Playoff.
