Joel Klatt thinks that Ohio State could have what it takes to bring a national title back to Columbus. He explained why he thinks the Buckeyes could make it happen on ‘The Joel Klatt Show’.

Many Ohio State will tell you what the issue with the team has been in the last couple of years. Ohio State lost to Oregon and and Michigan last season, and Alabama two seasons ago in the national championship. The one thing that stood out in those losses? The lack of defense. Klatt agrees.

“What was the problem last year? The defense was the problem,” said Klatt. “It was the problem against Alabama two years ago. It was the problem against Oregon in the early loss last year. It was the problem against Michigan last year, in that game. They couldn’t get off the field.”

However, what Klatt has seen from Jim Knowles has made him see Ohio State as a championship contender once again. He is a firm believer that defense wins championships, and thinks Ohio State will have a chance to do that again this season.

“Jim Knowles comes in as a new defensive coordinator, and he’s now charged with changing not only the defense, but the title hopes for Ohio State,” said Klatt. “The reason is because we know what they are on offense. They’re a championship level offense, they’re the best offense in the country. To win a national championship, you’ve gotta play requisite defense.”

The Ohio State offense is one of the best in the country, averaging 588.8 yards per game. So far this so season the Buckeyes have shown that the defense may be up to par as well. Can Knowles help bring a title back to Columbus?
