Joel Klatt has been saying all year that Ohio State has as good of a chance as anybody to win the national title, but his confidence in the Buckeyes is shrinking after what he saw this past weekend.

The Buckeyes this past weekend were able to get back on the winning track against Nebraska, but it was a less-than-dominant performance in the 21-17 win.

After the loss to Oregon, the offense was praised and it was the defense that took some of the blame. However, with an injury bug starting to crop up on the offensive line and the struggle to run the ball against Nebraska, Klatt said Ohio State fans should be worried about the inability to run the ball.

“The questions and the concern are on the offensive side, and we know why, and it is because of the offensive line,” Klatt said. “If you watched that game Saturday and you aren’t worried as an Ohio State fan, then something is wrong. Those five guys up front weren’t playing very well. We knew this was going to be a big question coming into his game because Josh Simmons, who was playing some incredible football at left tackle gets hurt and he was out.”

In the game against Nebraska, the Buckeyes rushed for only 64 yards on 2.1 yards per carry. Klatt said the Buckeyes struggling to run the ball had Chip Kelly calling the game in a way different way.

“That game was not called from an offensive perspective as if it was just Nebraska on that side,” Klatt said. “It’s almost as if it was called for the rest of the schedule. That isn’t a knock, that is human nature because of what is going up front with that lineup. The reason I know that is because the best player on the field (Jeremiah Smith) had only 4 targets on the day.”

The offensive line will be in for an even tougher matchup, as the Buckeyes travel to Happy Valley to take on Penn State in a game with major B1G and College Football Playoff implications.
