Joel Klatt has joined the fray of fans and analysts reacting to the first edition of this year’s College Football Playoff rankings. Those rankings were unveiled Tuesday night with Ohio State leading Georgia, Michigan and Florida State in the top 4.
The Buckeyes landing the No. 1 spot might have surprised some people due to Ohio State not being No. 1 in the other key polls. However, Klatt reiterated the Buckeyes have the best resume through Week 9 due to some great wins.
“Ohio State is No. 1 in the country even though they’re not No. 1 in either of the polls. Now, a lot of people will say well this doesn’t make any sense and we don’t think that they’re actually the best team in the country,” said Klatt. “Fair enough, but they do have the best resume in the country… They’ve got great wins, folks.”
Overall, Klatt felt like Tuesday’s announcement was one that fans could see coming ahead of time. He also says he has no problem with Ohio State at No. 1.
“You could see this coming, and I don’t have a problem with it. Ohio State is a damn good football team. They’re built a little bit differently than they have been over the last 3 years,” Klatt explained. “And because of that, maybe this is a form or a strategy or a blueprint for Ohio State that will pay better dividends.”

While Ohio State is the first No. 1 of the season in the CFP rankings, it has not done much to impact Ohio State’s standing in the national championship odds. Michigan is still a slight betting favorite ahead of Georgia and then Florida State before Ohio State slots in at No. 4 on the odds.
