Justin Fields met with media earlier Wednesday with some interesting comments concerning his struggles to start the 2023 season.

Fields showed promise during his rookie and sophomore seasons in the NFL out of Ohio State. Some expected Fields to take a huge jump from Year 2 to Year 3, but as Bears fans would tell you… it has not gone as planned.

The Bears are 0-2 and have lost 12 straight dating back to last season, and Fields has struggled through Week 2. Through the first few games of the year it seems the Bears have been trying to develop Fields as a passer, while perhaps cutting off what makes him a true threat at the position: His dual-threat ability.

Fields has not looked as explosive this season. He was asked about it Wednesday and he said that he has not been able to play his game, and that he is instead playing “robotic.” When asked why, he told reporters it could be coaching related.

Fields talked with reporters once again in the locker room Wednesday and clarified some of those earlier comments. He made it clear his intention was not to blame coaches. “I can play better. Point blank,” Fields said.

Things are not getting any easier for Fields and the Bears, despite his pledge to play more free in Week 3. The Bears take on the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, one of the better teams in the league despite sitting at 1-1 on the season.

Let’s see which version of Justin Fields takes the field Sunday in Kansas City.
