Justin Fields: 'I'm definitely in the top 5' of all-time running QBs
Justin Fields is working on his development as an NFL quarterback. A lot of his room for growth remains in the passing game, but he demonstrated what he could do on the ground a season ago.
When the 2022 season came to a close, Fields had rushed for over 1,100 yards and 8 touchdowns. Both marks were tops for the Chicago Bears with no other player finishing with more than 801 yards or 5 touchdowns for the season.
In a recent interview, Fields was asked to list his top 5 all-time QBs when it comes to running the football. Fields admitted he believes he’s definitely in the top 5 after just 2 seasons in the NFL.
“Oh I am, because I definitely think I am. I’m definitely in the top 5,” Fields said. The rest of his list included Michael Vick, Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson and Steve Young in no particular order.

Is Justin Fields wrong?
While Fields is entering just his 3rd NFL season, some of his claim is backed up. Lamar Jackson holds the single-season rushing record for a QB with 1,206 yards in 2019, but Fields holds the second-best season with 1,143 yards. No other QB has 1,100+ rushing yards in a year entering 2023.
Fields also had some record-breaking performances during the 2022 campaign. In a dramatic outing against the Miami Dolphins, Fields became the first QB since 1950 with 150+ rushing yards and 3+ passing touchdowns in a single game. His 178 rushing yards in that game is also a record for a QB in a regular-season game.
We’ll see if Fields can back up his claim with another strong outing this season while improving as a passer, but he’s off to a strong start in his career with the Bears.
