Justin Fields completed just 19 of his 40 pass attempts for 166 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions on Sunday as the Chicago Bears lost to the Cleveland Browns 20-17.

Chicago was outscored 13-0 in the fourth quarter, with Cleveland pushing a game-winning field goal through the uprights with just 32 seconds left on the clock. The defeat dropped Chicago to 5-9 on the season. Unsurprisingly, “Caleb Williams” was trending on social media as Bears fans look ahead to the top of the 2024 NFL Draft.

After the game, Bears wideout DJ Moore went to bat for his quarterback.

“What makes him not the quarterback for the Chicago Bears right now?” Moore asked reporters in the locker room. “I don’t think they (Caleb Williams and Drake Maye) are better than Justin.”

Moore is in his first season with the Bears after being acquired in a trade with Carolina around last year’s draft. He has 1,071 yards and seven touchdowns on 76 receptions. He’s on pace for a career year in terms of yardage and touchdown catches.

Fields was also let down on Sunday. Tight end Robert Tonyan dropped a would-be touchdown. Wideout Darnell Mooney had a Hail Mary pass on the final play of the game fall into his lap in the endzone and he couldn’t complete the catch.

The Bears figure to have two top-10 picks in the upcoming draft. After trading out of the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft and giving Fields another year on the job, they now have to decide whether Fields is the man moving forward.

They could continue to build up pieces around Fields — Marvin Harrison Jr. is a popular name for the Bears should they opt to keep Fields. Or Chicago can try to trade him for more assets, draft either Williams out of USC or Maye out of North Carolina and reset the rebuild.
