Fields is a red-shirt junior, making him a fourth year player and eligible for the award. His Ohio State Buckeyes have only been able to play four games to this point as a consequence of strict Covid-19 protocols, but when he’s been on the field he has been impressive.

In spite of a rough, three-interception game against Indiana, Fields has not thrown an interception in any other game while accounting for 13 touchdown passes. He is completing nearly eighty-percent of his passes for more than 1,200 yards.

The Unitas Award, which was established in 1987, has been given to many exceptional college players, including Florida State’s Charlie Ward, both Manning brothers, Oregon’s Marcus Mariota, and last year to national champion and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow of LSU.
