Justin Fields took a big step forward in his second season with the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately, his season is over with head coach Matt Eberflus announcing the quarterback will be shut down for the regular season finale.

According to Brad Biggs with the Chicago Tribune, Eberflus announced Fields reported a sore hip on Monday. An MRI revealed a strain, and Fields will not be active in Week 18. Fortunately, it is not a long-term injury for Fields.

In his second NFL season, Fields started 15 games. Though the team went 3-12 in those starts, the second-year QB out of Ohio State showed what he was capable of with the offense.

Fields completed just over 60% of his passes for 2,242 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also flexed his dual-threat ability, leading the Bears through Week 17 with 1,143 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns on the year. That’s an average of just over 76 yards per game on the ground.

With Fields showing he can command an offense in 2022, it will be time for Chicago to find the pieces to surround Fields for 2023 and beyond.
