Kirk Herbstreit feels that there’s still a path for Ohio State to make the College Football Playoff, even after getting blown out by Michigan at Ohio Stadium on Saturday.

The Buckeyes were ranked No. 2 in the College Football Playoff Top 25 heading into the game, while the Wolverines were at No. 3. The loss, though, saw OSU drop out of the top 4 into No. 5 on Tuesday, while Michigan rose to No. 2. Alabama is a slot back at No. 6, with USC at No. 4.

The Crimson Tide’s path to the playoff appears to be blocked by the Buckeyes, who will be closely watching the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday between the Trojans and No. 11 Utah.

“It’s pretty simple and pretty clean this year. If USC wins, they’re in…and if they lose, which Ohio State fans will be hoping for…it would open up the possibility of Ohio State, even though it’s hard to imagine after the way Ohio State played last weekend, especially in that 2nd half, that they would still be in a position,” Herbstreit said on ESPN on Tuesday during the CFP Top 25 rankings release show. “But there’s really nobody else that could go by them right now this particular year, so even though they’re frustrated, disappointed with the way they played, they still, I guess, mathematically still have a shot if SC goes down to Utah.”
