Kyle McCord 'jettisoned' by Ohio State says CBS Sports analyst Rick Neuheisel
Kyle McCord is in the transfer portal, the starting quarterback for Ohio State confirmed on Monday. That move turned some heads, but it is far from the most shocking of portal moves after the way the 2023 season played out.
During an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, former head coach and current CBS Sports analyst Rick Neuheisel was asked about the move. Neuheisel went on to claim the Buckeyes “jettisoned” McCord and told the QB to look elsewhere.
“Yeah, they jettisoned him. That has to be the case, yes,” said Neuheisel about McCord’s move and the likelihood Ryan Day will look for a new QB in the portal. “You don’t leave Ohio State. There’s no greener pasture, especially considering the receivers they have accumulated there. That’s a ‘You need to look for someplace else.'”
This is certainly a new era of college football and one that will still take some getting used to among certain fans. McCord went 11-1 as Ohio State’s starting QB this season, but the offense failed to reach its full potential with him leading the group.
Ohio State does have 5-star QB Air Noland incoming via the 2024 recruiting class, but it’s also likely the Buckeyes land a replacement for McCord via the portal. A host of talented players are already looking for a new home, including Washington State QB Cameron Ward and Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel, among others.
