Nick Bosa is coming off his second Pro Bowl appearance and a career-best performance with the San Francisco 49ers. Already regarded as one of the best young pass-rushing stars in the NFL, Bosa will be looking for a contract extension in the near future.
Bosa did have the 5th-year option of his rookie contract picked up for 2023. However, both sides will likely be looking to get an extension done well before Bosa has a chance to reach free agency.
On Tuesday, San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan discussed the contract situations for Bosa and All-Pro playmaker Deebo Samuel. Shanahan admitted the team has not yet started negotiations with Bosa but is still confident the Ohio State product will work something out to remain in San Francisco for a long time.
“That’s how both sides are going at it now,” Shanahan said according to David Bonilla with 49ers WebZone. “I’m not too concerned with it. I fully expect Nick Bosa being here for a very long time. But seeing him for the first time in a while, Nick always takes care of himself as good as any athlete I’ve ever been around, and he had a good Florida tan, seeing him yesterday. His quads are still huge, and he’s ready to play football whenever it’s time to go.”
In 3 NFL seasons, Bosa has 24.5 sacks – including a career-high 15.5 in 2021 – and 2 Pro Bowl appearances. His lone season without making the Pro Bowl was cut short due to a season-ending injury.
