Smith is a true freshman but the hype has been strong for him in his first season with the Buckeyes. He started for Ohio State to begin the year — something that other Ohio State phenoms such as Garrett Wilson and Marvin Harrison Jr. didn’t even accomplish right away.
Smith is one of the headliners for a freshman wide receiver class nationally that also includes Alabama’s Ryan Williams, Auburn’s Cam Coleman and other standouts.
Smith was the No. 1 overall player in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings. And he seems to have a good argument as the most talented wide receiver on Ohio State’s roster after this performance vs. Michigan State.
Even before tonight, Smith was Ohio State’s leading receiver on the year. He entered this game with 14 catches for 281 yards and 4 touchdowns — leading the team in each category.
