Luke Fickell leads Cincinnati to third 11-win season in program history
Luke Fickell’s second season at Cincinnati was one to remember.
Monday, Cincinnati posted a 35-31 victory over Virginia Tech in the Military Bowl, finishing the season 11-2. It was just the third time in program history the team has reached that win total.
The Bearcats started the season 6-0 before dropping an overtime contest to Temple midway through the year. They then rattled off three more wins before dropping their second game of the season, this time to UCF.
Cincinnati won its final two games over East Carolina and Virginia Tech.
The Fighting Fickells win the Miltary Bowl over Virginia Tech. Nice turnaround season for Luke.

Cincinnati last won 11 or more games in the 2009 season, going 12-1 under head coach Brian Kelly. The only other season when the Bearcats hit that mark was 2008, also under Kelly. That year, UC finished 11-3.
Fickell completed his second season as the head coach at Cincinnati, and it was quite the turnaround from 2017. Last fall, the Bearcats were just 4-8.
Monday’s victory over Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl was Cincinnati’s first postseason win since a 48-34 victory over Duke in the Belk Bowl in 2012.
