News surfaced Wednesday afternoon that ex-Buckeyes receiver L’Christian “Blue” Smith received an immediate eligibility waiver. A four-star recruit from the 2018 class, Smith transferred to Cincinnati after redshirting his freshman season. Now, he will be able to suit up for the Bearcats this fall.

When discussing the eligibility waiver, Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell took time to highlight Ohio State’s role in the process. According to Fletcher Paige with the Cincinnati Enquirer, Fickell praised the Buckeyes for their help and cooperating in Smith’s waiver process:

Fickell indicated Ohio State cooperated to help Smith’s eligibility claim, saying, “I’m happy for what Ohio State did for us and for Blue, really trying to help him out and make this possible.”

It certainly is a good sign to see a university put what is best for the player first, especially considering that the Buckeyes and Bearcats will face off this season. That game will be September 7 in Columbus.
