Malik Hartford, an Ohio State commit and star safety for Lakota West Firebirds, had a big game and a big hit in his team’s 16-13 win over the St. Xavier Bombers.

With 20 seconds left in the game, the quarterback for St. Xavier threw a pass to a receiver that was broken up after a big from Hartford. The play drew a flag for unnecessary roughness as the official thought Hartford made a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Here’s a look at the jarring blow:

It was a scary moment as the receiver was down for a while. He had to be helped off the field by trainers. After the game, Hartford issued a concern to the player on his Twitter page, praying he was okay.

Hartford is a 4-star player and the ninth-rated safety in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. He committed to Ohio State on April 6 after 25 official offers to play college football.

Hartford was just one Ohio State commit making plays in Friday’s high school action. Wide receiver Carnell Tate also impressed with a touchdown off a kick return for IMG Academy.
