Marcus Spears has heard about the prospects of the Chicago Bears trading Justin Fields while using the No. 1 overall draft pick on Alabama’s Bryce Young. Needless to say, he’s not thrilled with the idea.

During Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s “Get Up,” Spears made it clear he would hold onto Fields and build around the young quarterback in Chicago. Spears pointed to the recent growth of Fields and a belief that the QB can be a true star in the NFL if the right system is put in place.

“Look man, systems in this league matter, where guys are matter, situations matter… And we saw one change with Justin Fields, we saw an investment in his skillset and an investment personally in him getting better,” Spears explained.

“Justin Fields in the right situation can be an absolute star in this league. He’s just got to be put in that situation. I don’t think you move on from him, I think you build around him and you see what you have. And if you think Bryce Young is going to be Patrick Mahomes because everybody likes to bring Patrick Mahomes’ name up every damn single offseason… I say full stop with the nonsense. Let’s find out. What we know is Fields can be dominant in the run game and have the ability to push the ball downfield.”

We’ll see what Chicago does with the pick in April, but at least Spears is not a fan of the prospect of moving Fields after the season he had for the Bears.
