Marvin Harrison Jr.’s time at Ohio State has indeed reached its conclusion.

In a stirring note on social media, the leading receiver for the Buckeyes confirmed he is declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft after 3 seasons in Columbus. After limited production as a true freshman in 2021, Harrison burst onto the scene with 14 touchdowns and over 1,200 receiving yards in 2022.

He replicated those numbers and delivered a massive 18.1 yards per catch in 2023. Harrison finished with 15 total touchdowns, recorded multiple touchdowns in 4 games and found the endzone in 8 straight games to end the regular season.

Impact for the Buckeyes

It was always expected that Harrison would make the jump to the NFL after this season. Coming into 2023, the star wideout was widely viewed as a top-5 prospect and the best available receiver in the upcoming draft.

Harrison only solidified that positioning with his 2023 performance, and ESPN included the star Buckeye at No. 4 overall in the latest mock draft. While it is unlikely Harrison ascends into the realm of the No. 1 overall pick, he does maintain the 4th-best odds to be selected at the top of the draft per DraftKings.

The loss of Harrison is understandably a blow to a Buckeye offense that will have a distinctly new look in 2024. However, Ohio State will be well-situated at receiver to complement newcomers Will Howard and Quinshon Judkins.

While Harrison is indeed on his way to the NFL, Emeka Egbuka has confirmed plans to return for the 2024 season. Prior to the start of the season, Egbuka was likely a first-round pick, but injuries slowed his production and development in 2023. Now, he’ll return to headline a receiver room that will include Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, and the nation’s No. 1 player in the 2024 recruiting class Jeremiah Smith.
