Ohio State fought until the very end, but ultimately, it couldn’t land its top target.

Five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson announced on ESPN2 that he’ll be attending Florida State in 2017.

Wilson was the No. 1 defensive tackle and the No. 6 player overall in the 2017 class. The Episcopal (Tex.) recruit had a final five of OSU, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma and USF.

Ohio State’s push to land Wilson came late in the game.

He visited the Buckeyes for the Michigan game and got the full-court press from Ohio State commits and fellow top-shelf Texas recruits Baron Browning, Jeffrey Okudah and J.K. Dobbins.

Browning was upset not to get a commitment from his fellow Texas native.

Ohio State’s 2017 class will still finish ranked No. 2 in the national rankings with commitments from 19 four- and five-star recruits.
