Baron Browning found out the hard way what happens when you prank Urban Meyer.

The five-star linebacker is already enrolled at Ohio State, but when he was an uncommitted recruit, Browning tried to pull a fast one on his future coach.

In December, he texted Meyer and former OSU defensive coordinator Luke Fickell that he was going to Alabama and not Ohio State. The Texas recruit told his parents the same thing.

But that was all a joke that Browning cooked up. He knew he was going to Ohio State. He had actually already tweeted out his OSU commitment, but the Buckeye coaching staff didn’t learn of Browning’s joke until fellow Buckeye commit Tate Martell showed them the tweet.

Meyer decided he had to get Browning back.

During a day of school a few weeks ago, Browning got a text from Meyer asking him to call when he got the chance. That meant Browning had to ask his mom, his school’s assistant principal, to use her office phone.

That’s when Meyer delivered the bombshell.

“(Meyer) was like ‘Hey what’s up Baron. I’m just calling to let you know that the L.A. Rams offered me the job and I’m gonna take it,'” Baron said via Cleveland.com. “I’m just sitting there and my mouth just dropped. I don’t even know what to say. I’m just speechless.

“He’s just like ‘Hello?’ And I’m not even saying anything. I’m mad. I’m just listening. And he’s like, ‘You there?’ and I’m like ‘I’m there.’ A few minutes passed and he’s like ‘Ah, I’m just messing with you.’ I wasn’t laughing.”

Even better, Meyer got Browning’s mom in on it. She apparently sold Meyer’s lie pretty well.

“I guess I had that coming,” Browning said.

It’s probably a good thing Meyer’s joke was limited to one person and not the entire Ohio State fan base.
