Quarterback Tate Martell was a high-profile recruit that Ohio State got in the class of 2017.
Martell didn’t start his freshman year and then said he would stick around to become the next Buckeye QB after Dwayne Haskins left. Haskins left for the NFL, so Martell seemingly had a chance to start.
However, the Buckeyes brought in QB Justin Fields, a 5-star prospect coming out of high school, from Georgia. Rather than fighting for the job with Fields, Martell decided to transfer.

Martell was then ruled eligible for Miami (FL) once he chose the Hurricanes, allowing him to play this upcoming season. It seemed like a sure bet. Martell chose his destination and was immediately eligible to play.

However, on Tuesday morning, the Hurricanes named their starting QB going into 2019.
It wasn’t Martell:
QB1.

The starting QB for Miami to open the season is redshirt freshman Jarren Williams. Williams was considered a 4-star prospect and a dual-threat signal-caller.
This isn’t good news if you’re Martell, obviously. Not only did Martell leave OSU to potentially start elsewhere (Miami), but he lost the job to a redshirt freshman. Martell is a redshirt sophomore.
That certainly doesn’t bode well for his future.
May another transfer happen for Martell?
