The annual matchup between Ohio State and Michigan did not have the usual massive stakes involved in The Game. However, that doesn’t mean it was any less heated between the bitter rivals.

Quite the opposite, in fact. Michigan, in spite of a lackluster overall season, stunned Ohio State 13-10 to beat the Buckeyes.

After the win, the Wolverines attempted to plant a block M flag in the middle of Ohio Stadium, something that did not sit well with the Buckeyes and set off a massive brawl. That wild scene was complete with police officers pepper-spraying Michigan players in the scrum.

The initial report indicated the officers involved were mainly Ohio PD, adding some further questions after it appeared Wolverines were the major ones to be hit by the pepper spray. However, a new report on the story indicates that was not the case.

According to Matt Baker with The Athletic, an OSU spokesperson has revealed 3 police officers dispatched pepper spray in the brawl. That trio represented 3 separate departments with University of Michigan PD, OSU PD and Franklin County Sherriff’s office involved.

The overall investigation is still ongoing.

While losing to Michigan kept Ohio State out of the Big Ten Championship Game, the Buckeyes will host Tennessee in a College Football Playoff game on Dec. 21. Meanwhile, the Wolverines will face Alabama in a rematch of last year’s Rose Bowl and CFP semifinal in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
