Nick Bosa on QB hurries: I’d rather get the sack

Nick Bosa is an ambitious player.

Already this season, the Ohio State defensive end has racked up 19 tackles, including 10 stops for loss and four sacks. But those numbers don’t truly measure the impact he’s had on the field. The sophomore is consistently getting pressure on the quarterback, blowing up plays in the backfield and plays an integral role on the defensive front.

While Bosa understands he’s making a difference in the game, he’s not satisfied with some of the numbers he’s posted and he’s even less thrilled with settling for just hurrying the quarterback. He addressed that while meeting with the media.

“I think I’ve been winning a lot, I mean, there’s always room for improvement,” Bosa said. “I just need to finish plays more, then I’ll get the recognition I deserve.”

Bosa thinks that, because he’s not racking up the sacks, he’s not getting as much attention as some of the other guys in college football.

After that statement, Bosa was asked if he can find some satisfaction in knowing that he’s making an impact just by getting pressure on the quarterback.

“Not really,” he answered. “I want the sacks, the sack-fumbles.

“It’s nice to get sacks. One sack will get more attention than nine QB hurries. It’s not about the attention though, it’s about altering the game, and I think I helped alter the game. We won and now we’re playing for the College Football Playoff.”

Maybe Bosa’s numbers aren’t quite where he’d like them to be, but there’s not many folks questioning the impact he has on a game each and every week.

We’ll see if the defensive end racks up a few more sacks this weekend against Iowa.
